LDR Acting strange out of the blue

So, I have a project for control of a chicken coup door. It uses a LDR to open and close the door at specific light levels. The project has been up and running for years now with zero issues. all of a sudden the light levels are rising without any light present, then they will go down again but not to zero and the climb back up as if it were daytime light levels even though its dark out.

Is this just the LDR failing? Do they go bad?

Have you checked carefully for corrosion in the wiring and discoloration of the sensor?

Any electrical circuitry (especially PCBs) that are exposed to outdoor humidity while powered will eventually corrode.

LDRs outside will eventually fail from moisture and UV light.
Some even do in a matter of months.

Is the project on a PCB, or a breadboard?
