LED to indicate MOSFET is on

Hi all,

Noob question but my research didn't give me anything solid.

I have a MOSFET driving a solenoid and I wanted to know the best way to wire a LED into the circuit to indicate the MOSFET is active and the solenoid is on. My circuit is similar to the below image.

Would it be as simple as putting a resistors and LED in series with the solenoid?

Put a 1k resistor in series with your LED, place these in parallel with the coil.

That’s a BJT transistor symbol

Awesome, thank you.

Yeah I knew the diagram had wrong components but it painted the right picture. I originally I used this layout with a TIP120 but have since moved to a MOSFET.

Only sensible approach!
