looking forward to meeting skilled team on Arduino / bluetooth / stepper motot

Hi,

  1. Is Arduino able to control a Stepper motor (200/400 steps) 24 V
  2. Is Arduino able to recieve a Bluetooth command from a Smartphone/tablet

Anybody comfortable on this subjects could answer?

I hope that Stepper Motor Basics will give you some useful information.

The answer to both questions is YES. However you will need a suitable stepper driver board and a suitable bluetooth module.

If you want more advice post a link to the datasheet for your stepper motor.

I'm currently using and ITC stepper Motor and its ITC Comstep Board.

But it could be any other Stepper motor. My goal is to get rid of its seriel connexion. A Bluetooth should be much better and comfortable.

My French is poor, but it seems like that PDF is about a stepper driver rather than a stepper motor.

Perhaps you can control that stepper driver with an Arduino?

I can't see the rated current listed for the motors in that datasheet. You need to know that to choose an alternative stepper driver.

As far as I can see the Comstep board is intended to be controlled through a PC parallel port. An Arduino should be able to take the place of the PC. However you would need to know the signals that pass between the PC and the board.

You say you want to "get rid of its serial connexion". Can you explain what serial connection you are talking about?

Sorry! Yes, The Comstep board is connected through Parallel Port. An I guess I could know the signals passing, If I ask ITC.

If you can get Arduino to control the Comsep board, you can do the same thing with bluetooth. It is merely a matter of conveying the same commands via different means. Your main problem is then the phone app.

I just say this in case you interpret his comment as meaning that Bluetooth is an alternative to the Arduino.

So I'm I right if I say:

  • The phone could be connected via Bluetooth to an Arduino board which controls the Comstep board.

or

  • The phone could be connected via Bluetooth to an Arduino board which controls directly a stepper Mottor.

?

I’m sure both are correct.

I assume the Comstep board is a board through which Arduino controls stepper motors, thereby enabling it to control multiple motors and/or motors requiring heavy current or higher voltage. It is possible for Arduino to control little flea-power 5v motors directly, but they are really just for the intellectual exercise as I understand it.

As some guru famously said, bluetooth is just “serial-by-wireless”, so anything you can do via the USB cable should be OK via bluetooth. If you check the store, you may find the app you need already there.

The challenge now is to find the specification for the signals that the PC sends to the Comstep board so that you can figure how to get an Arduino to emulate them.
