Mega2560 with EFTDI FT232RL ?

Finally arrives my new mega2560, but what's that?
I see an ATMEGA2560 chip,
but also a chip labelled EFTDI 1019-B B9447601 FT232RL

I didn't expect that. Is it some mixture of old and new mega design?
Will it work after all with Arduino software?

The item was described as 'Arduino Mega ATmega2560'
confused....

I didn't expect that.

Why not? It is a USB / serial bridge, it's on most arduinos.

I thought it was replaced by a ATMega8U2
Did I misunderstand something?

Is this what you have?

or have you got an older board?

Most likely it is a clone of the original Mega with an Atmega2560 instead of an Atmega1280.

I have personally sold a few of these, but I believe I make it clear enough that it is a clone that has the Atmega1280 replaced with a 2560. Unfortunately not all sellers explain that well enough. As far as I know, any original Arduino Mega with an Atemega2560 is a clone.

With that being said, it really doesn't matter (unless you require the new USB interface) if you have the new one or a clone that is upgraded. The Atmega2560 is officially supported now even though it still can not be fully utilized (certain factors may make this statement false). As long has you have the latest bootloader installed you should be able to use it as if it was the new Mega2560.

Yes, I think that's what it is. Good to hear you say that it will work. Hope I will not miss the new USB possibilities one day...

If you have not got a real Mega2560 you will.

It looks like the official new Mega has the same name as some older clones.

LinuxUser: where did you buy the board from?
