I bought an Edge Control + MKR WAN 1310 Board, thinking to buy a MKR RS485 Shield to give it Modbus/RTU connectivity, but I have found MKR RS485 is discontinuated.
What similar alternative can I use? I chose this solution because it was simple an easy, simply using the socket to connect the shield, whithout other cables, connections, welds…
I need a professional finish. I'm going to use this communication system to control an irrigation motor, and I need equipments that won't give me any problems. I'm worried that these cheap devices will cause me issues, especially if they require weldering or splicing wires.
On the other hand, it frustrates me to pay €76 for equipment that cost €26 two months ago. The question is: does the control system gain reliability with the MKR RS485 Shield compared to other solutions, or is it ultimately the same?
Rs485 converter is relatively simple device. I have been using $1 modules for many projects, one is controlling my PV inverter for many many years without any hiccups.
Obviously wiring needs to be properly done.
