I have a similar electric motor from some old children's toy. At 6 volts at idle it consumes 150 milliamps and its braking current is about 2 amps. The batteries in your photo look good and if new would be powerful enough for this small electric motor but I don't think they are suitable for the previous large electric motor. Next is your other problem which is that according to the datasheet the L293D driver has a maximum output current of 600 milliamps and that means it is not suitable even for the small electric motor and you may have burnt the driver with the large electric motor.
