So me and a few of my friends have set out to make a coil gun. we have made a few coils and got a couple BoJack 640N MOSFETS from amazon. Now we dont really have a good idea of how to use them but we opened up tinkerCAD and made a circuit that worked. we copied what we made in tinkerCAD replacing the power supply with a capacitor and the motor with our coil. however we noticed that the coil is constantly magnetized, meaning current is flowing through it. we are charging the capacitor to about 30 volts. Does anyone have any idea what coild be causing the circuit to constantly flow(it is coded correctly).
here is a link to the amazon part we ordered:https://www.amazon.com/BOJACK-IRF640-IRF640N-IRF640NPBF-N-Channel/dp/B07WNH4TN2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3NVTASUX4K7FV&keywords=MOSFET+640&qid=1670528006&s=industrial&sprefix=mosfet+640%2Cindustrial%2C94&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRDlUQ1JQWlJFWVpTJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTM4MDg3MTVFREo4TTVZRzlBSiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTQ0NjgxM0dCV1cwOENLMUE0MiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
The IRF640 is not a logic level MOSFET.
You must have a common GND between the arduino and the power supply.
A kickback diode needs to be add across the coil.
