Nano/every digital pins

hi all,
is it possible to connect an unused digital pin directly to ground, without damaging the board?

Welcome to the forum

As to your question, why would you want to ?

thanks!

i want to solder two pushbuttons directly to the board.
i already have one between gnd and d3 and i'd like to have another one
between, say d9 and d7, where d7 would be ground.

How would d7 be GND ?

what would you think?

Why not between d9 and, GND?

Welcome to the community.
As for your question, since a pushbutton may be used to short an input to ground as a valid input, it would seem to be logical that no damage would ensue.
But, DO NOT then attempt to drive that pin as a logic high output, for that will surely damage the output.

because i want to use the hole of d7 to solder the gnd pin of my pushbutton to.

Again, why not to GND pin? You said soldered one button to GND, why do not do the same for second button?
Is your problem to solder two wires to one pin? Hint - you can solder wire to wire first and than solder one from it to board pin.

thanks!

that's what i thought too...

i use the ezbutton library which automatically uses pullup on digital pins,
but i think/hope:) only on initialized pins.

A pullup can't be damaged by connecting to ground, either - that's what the button does, after all. I think you need a bit more digital savvy.

that would surely do no harm:)

If that came across as harsh, I appologize, I forgot the :grinning:
That's what we're here for, to help. Sometimes we think noobs know too much, sometimes we aim too low. Sometimes we get it right, but...
I think a better description of what you really want to do might be in order. This:

because i want to use the hole of d7 to solder the gnd pin of my pushbutton to.

makes me think you're just using the board as a mechanical platform, and using that hole is convenient. Is that the case?

no problem:)

i couldn't have said it any better!

... in the meantime i was brave and gave it a test.
it's working!
no fire, no smoke, no funny smell;)
and no harm to the board, i think, so far...

thank you all for your input!
