Hi, the link you provided is to an RF receiver supporting more frequencies than the Amazon unit. The challenge will be pairing a remote and the output signal from these to arduino hardware although it supports SPI and serial.
The one on Amazon seems to work without any additional libraries based on user reviews.
I do appreciate you posting these options if the solution requires a more robust system I will look at these more closely and see how I can get a matching remote.
Agree there is a trade off and i don't think this is going to be mass produced but more of a niche product. Hence why I'm open to using something like this rx/tx from Amazon.
The RF portion is just one small element of the larger project. It can easily be replaced by Wifi but that burdens the customer into accessing a front end and there will be some delays which the RF overcomes with the given distance and time to react to the condition requiring that input signal from a distance.
The elegance of the project can far exceed the original scope, if this was a mass produced product it would be designed from scratch or more robust commercial equipment would be used.
I find your first question irrelevant to the project or original thread. If it is for a customer or myself as a proto should have no bearing on your response!
The decision to go pro mini was driven by standby power use and original scope. As the scope grew due to capabilities i discovered with Nicla Vision being a possible option or ESP32-cam that opened up more options.
*"the ESP32-CAM is not optimized for battery use in its stock configuration. While the Arduino Pro Mini (3.3V) can drop to ~0.36 µA in deep sleep, the ESP32-CAM typically draws roughly 6 mA—a difference of nearly 16,000 times more power. *
Power Usage Comparison The ESP32-CAM is designed for convenience rather than extreme efficiency. It lacks many of the battery-first features found in specialized low-power boards."
I'm still looking at spec of arduino hardware optimized for SwAP especially for use with battery, the Nicla Vision is one i'm exploring but the camera cable can't be extended unfortunately, at least not from what I have found.
I'm going to be spending likely quite a bit of time to find out what camera options i can use with the Pro Mini or if the Nicla Vision camera cable can be extended possibly or if there is another option optimized for similar SwAP as Pro Mini with camera and Wifi.
If you happen to know of another option i'm open ears or if you know more about extension of the camera on Nicla please share.
I did, the results I shared above. ESP is not designed for power efficiency. If there is a way to extend the cable off the Nicla Vision that would be ideal, otherwise back to looking at other camera options with pro mini
