Newbie screwup I am Sure

ok I opened a new sketch and went thru line by line just carrying over what was needed
everything is good until in setup I initialize the lcd
write a couple stupid things
throw in a couple delays
so they are on the screen long enough to see then let it move on to the loop,
thats where everything goes to shit.
if I comment out the lcd stuff it works perfect put it back in nope.
I am figuring it has to be something with the delays becase thats when it starts bumping the ext relay
but I dont know anybody got any thoughts
I would like to keep the lcd and the stupid sayings in the setup if possible
can I do instead of delays
can I pause just the LCD or use micros?
