A visual inspections goes far. I've seen pins that where totally missing, bent, or just dirty.
Just ran
udo apt-get remove brltty
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 12 not to upgrade.
Auto remove was going to remove
linux-headers-5.15.0-122 linux-headers-5.15.0-122-generic
linux-headers-5.15.0-124 linux-headers-5.15.0-124-generic
and more, so I chose not to yet.
I'm getting a little confused.
You have two boards; are both not showing up in the IDE and giving the same results in dmesg?
I think that this is your problem.
This is probably the most promising one to solve your problem: usb - modemmanager conflicts with arduino - Ask Ubuntu
Below (for reference) the output of my arduino . org Uno (hence the idVendor is different). Ubuntu 24.04.
[ 363.345217] usb 1-3.4.3: new full-speed USB device number 13 using xhci_hcd
[ 363.424540] usb 1-3.4.3: New USB device found, idVendor=2a03, idProduct=0043, bcdDevice= 0.01
[ 363.424576] usb 1-3.4.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=220
[ 363.424589] usb 1-3.4.3: Product: Arduino Uno
[ 363.424599] usb 1-3.4.3: Manufacturer: Arduino Srl
[ 363.424607] usb 1-3.4.3: SerialNumber: 75439333235351119142
[ 363.435372] cdc_acm 1-3.4.3:1.0: ttyACM3: USB ACM device
Note
BRLTTY would show up in dmesg output.
Yes I agree, I would have thought BRLTTY would but it doesn't.
Now with no Arduino's connected to my computer, it is listed in
dmesg | tail -f
but then shows as disconnected.
Anyway I'll have a read of the page you linked. However the OP did not resolve his problem by the answers given, but I'll still try myself.
Thanks
???
You are the OP. What am I missing?
The original poster, commonly referred to a OP
But you started this topic so you are the OP.
If you are referring to BRLTTY then you could try
Thanks but using this command line:
grep ea60 /lib/udev/rules.d/85-brltty.rules
grep: /lib/udev/rules.d/85-brltty.rules: No such file or directory
@sterretje,
yes I did but I meant the poster in the link , although there is no name for him.
@avalon66 and @sterretje
To point you in the right direction: The device disconnect. @sterretje said something about lsusb, and whatever the driver status is, the device should still be listed with lsusb.
Yes, sometime it is but others it it is not , like now even when I plug the arduino in.
Anyway, I'll wait until the new cable arrives, and take from there
My new cable arrived and I connected it to the 1st Arduino Uno I tried yesterday, and it seen right away by the IDE on port ttyACM0.
So after all that , it was or is a duff data cable.
Thanks again all who replied to my problem.
