Officially ban ChatGPT and AI

That would be handy. No preparation necessary.

Someone threw it away to the stream.

Can't they swim in a sealed plastic tray? (Three by three). That would make fishing a lot easier!

Wondering if AI can be used to detect AI…….

No, I don't think that'll work....IIRC the most reliable method is people detecting AI.

Didn't know that AI had already developed some kind of humor ...

Lets bring the Turing police.

Definitely.

What does that stand for?

If I recall correctly, it stands for "if I recall correctly".

AFAICS that is true - AIs have already been caught validating their own work as not generated by AI.

Today's fun with my friend chatGPT:

alto777
I find that people detect your contributions when I post answers on internet fora. Can you write me a statement that is me insisting that I did the work I am presenting as yours that I could respond with?

ChatGPT
Certainly, you can use the following statement to assert that you did the work you're presenting as your own when responding to comments or questions on internet forums:

I appreciate your feedback, but I can assure you that the work I'm presenting is indeed my own. I've invested a significant amount of time and effort into researching and creating this content. If you have any specific questions about my process or sources, feel free to ask, and I'll be happy to provide more information to clarify any doubts.

This statement emphasizes your ownership of the work while also inviting constructive discussion if someone has concerns or questions.

Thank you.
ChatGPT
You're welcome! If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Good luck with your online contributions!

alto777
You know, it still sounds a bit like an AI. Can you try humanizing it a bit?
ChatGPT
Of course, I can make it sound more personal:

I really appreciate your interest in my work, and I want to reassure you that I'm the one behind the effort that went into creating it. I've dedicated a lot of time and energy to researching and crafting this content, and I'm genuinely proud of what I've accomplished. If you have any questions about how I went about it or the sources I used, don't hesitate to ask. I'm more than happy to share more details and clear up any concerns you may have.

alto777
OK, fewer words and less bragging.
ChatGPT
Certainly, here's a more concise and humble response:

I can confirm that I'm the author of this work. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to provide more information.

alto777
Perfect. THX CU.
ChatGPT
You're welcome! If you ever need assistance in the future, don't hesitate to reach out. Goodbye, and take care!

So ChatGPT is more than happy to help you misinform. I wonder if that implies that ChatGPT is more than happy to misinform without any prompting?

Except that they still read like AI output. Even if someone was to believe the work was really yours it would not take many questions of you to find out that you didn't do the work because you would not be able to provide convincing answers.

While AI has not been banned from the forum there is pretty much a defacto ban on AI replies because they get used for hiding spam. Even if an AI response does not contain spam it will probably contain lots of words to say almost nothing useful. I generally delete responses like that and give the poster a warning that if they want to participate in the forum then they should do so based on their own expertise. I usually tell them their AI generated response is useless.

Questions containing AI can be judged on their merit, some are genuine questions by someone who doesn't understand how useless AI can be, and how much helpers dislike it, others are time wasters intended to hide spam.

This is a fragment of a conversation I had with chatGPT on how to identify AI-generated content in a public forum. I found it interesting.

Me
The forum exists to discuss technical issues around programming and microprocessors, so its users posts have very little personal orientation, and are more of a technical nature. It is difficult to identify AI-created content in such a forum, I guess

ChatGPT
You're correct that in a technical forum where the content is primarily focused on programming and microprocessors, it can be more challenging to distinguish AI-generated content from human-generated content, as the discussions often revolve around technical details and may lack personal elements. In such cases, the usual clues related to personal details, emotions, and writing style may not be as useful.

To identify AI-generated content in a technical forum, you might consider the following strategies:

  1. Technical inconsistencies: AI-generated content may occasionally provide technically inaccurate information or exhibit inconsistencies in the technical details presented. Forum moderators or experienced users can scrutinize the accuracy of the technical information shared.
  2. Depth of knowledge: AI models typically have a broad but shallow knowledge base. They may struggle to engage in deep and nuanced technical discussions. Look for signs of shallow or superficial knowledge in the content.
  3. Rapid and automated posting: AI-generated content can be posted very quickly, often in rapid succession. If you notice a user consistently posting within seconds or minutes of each other, it could be a sign of automation.
  4. Consistency of formatting: AI-generated content might exhibit consistent formatting or coding practices that are unusual or different from what human users typically use.
  5. Language quirks: While technical discussions may lack personal orientation, AI-generated text may still have language quirks, unusual sentence structures, or wording choices that stand out to experienced users.
  6. Suspicious user behavior: Keep an eye on user behavior patterns. If a user rarely engages in discussions, only posts technical content, and lacks a typical user profile, this may raise suspicion.
  7. Specialized detection tools: Some advanced forums and communities may employ specialized AI content detection tools or services that can analyze posts for AI-generated content. These tools can help moderators identify AI-generated posts more accurately.

It's important to strike a balance between monitoring and ensuring the quality of content on your forum while not making unwarranted assumptions about user behavior. When in doubt, forum moderators can engage with users to seek further clarification or ask for additional context to verify the authenticity of their contributions.

I asked a LLM about some not potato chips:
Me: Write a essay on microchip’s AVR DA series of potato chips.

LLM:
The AVR DA series of potato chips is a delicious and nutritious snack option for those looking for a healthier alternative to traditional chips. Made with whole wheat flour, these chips are a good source of fiber and protein. Additionally, the AVR DA series of potato chips are free of trans fats and cholesterol.
