Plant watering system for multiple plants

I have one of these...I am planning to use them to make an automatic wash basin using an ir sensor and this.

Not if you use solenoids and manifold, like in an aquarium. One pump can be used for multiple plants with solenoids and a manifold.

But you have not asked him? Perhaps he had an idea how you could make a valve?

He told me to research on youtube and google but I couldnt find anything good.

But if I want to control the water for each individual plant then i would need to

... Do a lot of other things.

he probably has no clue

Tell him you need to buy a 3D printer, a soldering iron and some other basic electronics tools and you need an exploration budget

I have a soldering iron but not a 3d printer... I will tell him though about the other things.

yes

I basically want to just water all the plants at once with only one pump and one very long pipe with branches and holes at the locations of the pots.

As @wildbill told I will first try with a short amount of pots then if it is successful i will increase the number of pots

but you need to be able to control and close the holes if you want to stop the watering of a given plant and keep watering the others..

alternatively you can have the same duration for all plants (you just control when you turn the pump on and off) and have smaller or larger holes in the hose to provide less or more water to a given plant. Of course the further you go on the line, the less water flow you'll get, so you need to think about the diameter of the hose and sizing of the pump.

there are droplets kits that let you poke those holes in the wire and adjust the flow from that hole

With these droplet kits, there a few problems. First being my father saying to build one of these and not buying it. Second being that I had seen its reviews on amazon but some of them told that occasionally the pots would overflow with water.

Use the 3D printer you’ll ask your dad to buy to build the accessories. Cool Xmas gift
The overflow thing can be a user error
Use your judgement and brain when you read stuff off the Internet.

Hello
Well, you may take a view to get some ideas here:

Have a nice day and enjoy coding in C++.

Still I think that instead of buying a boring diy droplet kit, it is more interesting to build one using arduino and pumps etc.

One way or another you're going to need a means of delivering the water, so I expect that you will need to buy hose or drip tape or whatever.

You might want to clarify with your father what he means - requirements are critical on IT projects (or any project really). It sounds like he wants you to build the watering system, but I highly doubt that he intends that you must manufacture all the components from scratch. If he does, it's a very different (and difficult) undertaking.

I was not suggesting to buy that. It was an idea on how you could somewhat tailor the amount of water at each distribution point without having an electronic valve for each pot.

Yes it's more fun to build something and learn along the way.

They are called adjustable drippers.

thanks - I did not know the English word for it. In French it's "goutteurs réglables" so really just a plain translation
