port greyed out

I've been using 1.6.7 for several months with mega 2560. Today, I plug in the usb, I get the enumeration sound, but cannot connnect. Port is greyed out. any ideas? it was coming in as com6 recently. Tried different usb port, same result.

same board set, same IDE.

in device manager, I don't see a port entry any more, but a couple of new NXP items show up now, one for proximity devices another for smart card.

ideas?

That indicates a driver problem. You didn't state what OS you have so try and reinstall the driver.

win7, 64 on an HP laptop. the odd part is this has been working quite reliably, and all of a sudden it's a problem. no recent software additions, although sometimes it is tough to know what the sms folks are doing behind the scenes.
