I have an error, which i'm finding hard to resolve, please see below.

Any pointers into resolving this will be grateful.
I am also using an R4 Wifi, with the same laptop and USB C cable and seems to work fine.

Hi @rowlandwhiffin.
This error indicates you have not installed the Windows drivers for your Arduino board.
Arduino IDE automatically installs the drivers as part of the Boards Manager installation of support for the board. However, the driver will only be installed if you provide approval, which is requested via a Windows User Account Control (UAC) dialog that is displayed during the installation:
Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?
dpinst-amd64.exe
It might be that the driver is missing because you did not approve its installation at that time.
The solution will be to reinstall the "Arduino Mbed OS Portenta Boards" platform, making sure to approve the driver installation offer:
- Select Tools > Board > Boards Manager... from the Arduino IDE menus to open the "Boards Manager" view in the left side panel.
- Find the "Arduino Mbed OS Portenta Boards" entry in the list of boards platforms.
- Hover the mouse pointer over the "Arduino Mbed OS Portenta Boards" entry.
You will see a ●●● icon appear at the top right corner of the entry.
- Click the ●●● icon.
A menu will open.
- Select "Remove" from the menu.
An "Uninstall" dialog will open.
- Click the "YES" button in the "Uninstall" dialog.
The dialog will close.
- Wait for the uninstall process to finish, as indicated by a notification at the bottom right corner of the Arduino IDE window:
Successfully uninstalled platform ...
- Click the "INSTALL" button at the bottom of the "Arduino Mbed OS Portenta Boards" entry.
- If a "User Account Control" dialog about "dpinst-amd64.exe" appears, click the "Yes" button in the dialog:
- Wait for the installation process to finish, as indicated by a notification at the bottom right corner of the Arduino IDE window:
Successfully installed platform ...
After you have done that, try uploading the sketch to your Arduino board again, just as you did before. Hopefully it will be successful this time. If not, please let us know and we'll provide further assistance.
Dear ptillisch,
I had to get admin to remove and install the plugin(s), and i have admin rights now. The upload was successful, but still get this error:
Download done.
File downloaded successfully
Warning: Invalid DFU suffix signature
A valid DFU suffix will be required in a future dfu-util release
Transitioning to dfuMANIFEST state
Is this something to worry about?

It is important to understand the difference between warnings and errors. A warning is the tool telling you there is something could possibly cause a problem, but doesn't cause the process to fail. An error is the tool telling you there is a problem that caused the process to fail. In this case you have posted a warning, not an error.
In this case, the presence of the warning is normal and expected. You should simply ignore it as it is not anything you need to worry about.
A tool named dfu-util is used to upload sketches to the Portenta H7 board. The current version of the tool has an optional feature by which you can specify a "DFU suffix signature" in the dfu-util command. The developers of dfu-util planned to make that mandatory in a future version of dfu-util. So they added this warning to let the users of their tool know that the completely valid command they are using now will become invalid at some hypothetical point in the future after they update to a new version of dfu-util.
This isn't a concern for Arduino users because the exact version of dfu-util that is installed and used is completely controlled by Arduino IDE. Likewise, the dfu-util command used to upload is completely controlled by Arduino IDE. At the time when the Arduino developers decide to update to the hypothetical new incompatible version of dfu-util, they will simply update the code that defines the upload command at the same time.
