Powering an Arduino with 3 AA Batteries

Hi all;

Is there a way to power an Arduino Uno with 3 AA batteries? The voltage would be under 5 volts but would an unregulated power supply burn out the Arduino if directly applied to the 5v pin?

Thanks!

No, that will be fine. The ATMega328 can run on less than 3 V, but other circuitry might not. Please delete your extra post.

How do you delete a post? I posted the extra one by accident - sorry.

Connect the 4.5V to the 5V/Gnd on the power header. Or to the USB power pins.

Battery is not considered an unregulated supply.

OP,

Another option is to buy a boost converter to convert your battery into 5V. I've used this one with 2 AA batteries. Current might be limited to 200mA though. I've used dozens of them so the quality is dependable.

The most you can use is probably 2 AA battery. 3 AA battery is likely too much, although I have not tested 3. If you don't need much power, use 1 AAA battery :slight_smile:
