Hi,
I'm trying to power my Arduino Mega using an external power source. I want something that is portable. Can I power it using 4 C batteries connected in series? Do you guys recommend something else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With 4 NiMH C batteries in series, you will get close to 5V and can connect this to the Mega's 5V pin.
With non-rechargeable C batteries (shame on you for not considering the environment) the voltage will be too high for the 5V pin but too low for the Vin pin. A DC-DC buck/boost adapter to output 5V maybe.
Oh ok. I haven't thought about rechargeable batteries. I will consider buying those.
What about also using a separate 4 NiMH C batteries in series for powering 4 continuous rotation servos?
Try powering the Mega with a cellphone powerbank, connected to the USB socket.
It could be that the powerbank switches off because current draw is too low.
There are solutions for that.
