Pro Micro 3.3V USB Port Problem

Hi there,

I recently bought a Pro Micro - 3.3V/8MHz ( Pro Micro - 3.3V/8MHz - DEV-12587 - SparkFun Electronics ) and it worked fine, as in I was able to follow the startup guide and get the example blinker code working. This was on my Mac (OSX 10.8.3). Then my friend took it and decided to work on it and got setup using his PC (Win7) and he couldn't get it to work due to the COM Port not showing up on his computer on arduino.

Later I got it back from him and attached is the current status of how i got it, i can't get it to work as in I can't upload code to the mcu because my USB port doesn't show anymore on arduino app (see screenshot). You can also see the photo of it, it has a red light that was never there when I was working on it- so clearly there is a problem?

Please help, need to finish a project on it this week

and it worked fine

Double check the USB cable and the connector on the board. These are problematic.

There is a lesson here that has burnt me several times before... never buy ONE, always buy TWO.

There is another issue that has caught me over the years.. Similar too.. Never Lend Test Equipment to Friends or one of a kind electronic PCB's... It's the best way to lose them... and the friends as well..

Yeah. Know it well - my first home-designed and made computer.

Or drills.
