I was wondering why my Arduino board all of a sudden stopped uploading. I can't seem to upload any programs I make on to it. It results in this error:
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer not responding
The thing is, it was working like a charm a few days ago and then this happens. Let me know what could be causing this problem.

I am having the same problem yet this is with a newly purchased board, and with IDE version 1.5.6-rc2 (latest one downloaded). Sometimes when I open the Serial Monitor and quickly there-after try to upload it works, but it's very iffy.
Here's a copy of exactly what I'm getting:

... This might be a problem with avrdude I think?
Hmmm... I think this might be a problem with 1.5.6-rc2. I just removed it completely from my mac, and downloaded and installed 1.5.5-BETA and now I can upload fine.

I have the same problem. I'm using the Arduino Software Version 1.5.8 (Java 7) on a Mac with MAc OS 10.9.5.
I have an Arduino Uno connected using USB (changed the cable 3 times) but there is no port with USB in the name appearing, only bluetooth ports.
Uploading does not work and gives errors:
