Programing without a removable chip?

Hi, I'm wanting to try this project, but in the video it suggests removing the chip in the Arduino, while programing the ESP8266, however my two Uno's and Mega all have no chip to remove.

Is there any way I can get round this?

Post which ESP8266 board you have (link to seller or mfg). My 8266 has a USB port which I use to connect to the PC and program the ESP8266.

Then why not remove the ESP8266 to program it separately?
