i have a suggestion for an additional pulseIn argument: a timeout in micro/milliseconds
in case the expected pulse does not come in a certain time.

Good point. I'm going to try to do this for Arduino 0008, assuming I can find a good way to test the timing (since it will be different with the extra check in the loop).
