I am looking for a Start/ Stop switch for my project which is a car so hopefully something with some range and somewhat small. Any recommendations?

I hope you don't mean a real car that is capable of killing and seriously injuring people. A remote "kill" switch might do exactly that.

Got some characters on here haha. For an RC car because I want to put the shell back on top and then when Im ready use a button/switch to start/stop the program remotely. i assume I would need some sort of receiver board and a transmitter board to hold with a botton attached or something. Wasn't sure if this was common and people recommended a certain set up. But Ill tell you I did think the lanyard thing was funny man
There is nothing funny about the lanyard idea. It is widely used as a kill switch for outboard motors on small boats. You gave us no idea of the scale of your project.

I don't understand why you feel the need for an ON/OFF switch that is separate from your regular R/C equipment? Can't you stop the car at any time with that?
What R/C system are you using?
If you just want an external switch to cut battery power I don't understand why it needs any form of remote control.

- Write down your requirement
- Come up with a schematic in a paper
- Visualize what your software should do and write a pseudo code.

Easy guys don't jump on me. Im new I want a start/stop switch in my hand so I can have my arduino in the inside of my rc car with the shell over top which takes a minute or two to set up. Then I can push a button in my hand while the car is down on the ground whenever I'm ready. Remote control Kill switch call it what ever you want. I don't need all the functions on my RC controller which is old and broken btw just something to turn power on and off from a distance. You keep asking for details like idk what more you want its a pretty straight forward question if you ask me. Yes that guy was totally joking about the 1ft lanyard and yes it was funny...and nobody would use that for a little rc car. Its 1/16th scale if that would matter for any reason...thanks
Please specify: do you want one channel of your RC controller to act as a general on/off switch, or do you want to add some other RC controller for that purpose?

If you are thinking of putting an Arduino in your car why not use it for the complete R/C system using nRF24L01+ 2.4GHz transceivers?
I use them for controlling model trains.
