Replacing Matlab & Simulink -with Octave - since the later one is Open Source

dear friends

can i Replace Matlab & Simulink -with Octave - since the later one is Open Source

look forward to hear from you

I'm also interested... I want to get Matlab but since I'm not in school it's expensive. GNU Octave looks like a great solution!

Consider Scilab (free MATLAB replacement). For what I have tried, it works as well as MATLAB but the syntax is slightly different.

It all depends on what you want to do with it.

MATLAB/Simulink has lots of features and many different toolboxes, many of which have no direct Octave alternative, however, most tasks can be achieved using open-source alternatives, in one way or another, however cumbersome.
