I am a total noob to this stuff, but I have been tasked with troubleshooting what I think is an Arduino issue.
This is for a museum instal that I re-did.
I did NOT do the original Instal and really not sure how its all wired....but..
The Arduino system was already in place and was working flawlessly. This is how it worked:
In the room there is a BIG RED BUTTON. When pushed, all the lights in the bathroom shut off, a disco ball and light come on and a song is played. It lasts for about 20 seconds then the regular lights come back on....
That is what is supposed to happen. :o
I was asked me to change the songs to go with the therme of the new install.....but.....when i changed the songs and replaced the mini cf, the BIG RED BUTTON didnt trigger the light/song change.
The only thing I did was pop out the mini CF , which contained 6 mp3s in 2 folders. i did'nt change the folders just simply replaced the mp3's with new songs. popped it back in and then the Big Red Button did not work, like its not hitting the relay to activate the arduino. or something...
The altronix timer has 4 dip switches. When I opened it up, all were to the left except the 3rd one down which was to the right.
When I switched the bottom dipswith to the left, it triggered the song and lights like it was supposed to when the BIG RED BUTTON was pushed. But only when i manually swithched the dip switch... so it was defintely reading the mini-cf card.
I attached some pics of the Instal.. if there is anybody out there that thinks they can help please let me know!!!!
Thanks so much for reading this long winded post.
The ONLY thing did to the CF card was change out the mp3's. i did back it up. and even tried the backed up version and no luck....
Go back and modify your original post (not re-post it) - using the "More -> Modify" option below the right hand corner of your post to change the topic to "Reverse-engineering Museum Display". What you titled it is useless.
Exactly what did you change on the CF card? Did you backup the original?
Where is the source code for the Arduino? You will need that to make any changes.
It sounds like to connection between the button and the 6062 came loose since you are not able to trigger the module by pressing the button. I'd start by checking those wires.

Thanks for the tip, I'll definately check that.
Would changing the songs on the cf card have anything to do with this?
I don't see how it could....

Thanks for the tip in changing the post title.
The only thing I changed on the cf card is the MP3s. i did'nt change the file structure, I even used the same file name order (001_songtitle) etc...
could simply changing the mp3s on the mini CF make the entire thing not work?
The thing about the code is, I don't have access to it or the person who created it.

If the Styrofoam in the pictures is not special ESD foam, you may have zapped something with static electricity.
EXACTLY what steps did you take to replace the songs on the card?
Paul
I ejected the cf card from the reader in the photo, popped it in my macbook, and dragged the old mp3s to a folder ,and then dropped new mp3s in the already existing folders. popped it out. went back the next day, Inserted the mini-cf card in the reader closed it up, and went to hit the button, and nothing.
TomGeorge:
What filenames did you give the new songs?
If the program looks for specific filenames, then you will need to load new songs with the same old filenames.
You beat me to it.
And if the OP no longer knows the exact filenames s/he will need to source code either to re-create the filenames or to modify the code for the new filenames

Are you sure that your backup version is identical to the original? Down to the directory and file names? If not, that could be an explanation.
Another possibility is that you disturbed a wire when you removed the card. I see breadboard in your picture - it's not really intended for long term use and easily messed up if you bump it.
Why are there multiple files? Your description only mentions that the red button triggers one song. What else does it do?

. . .
If I understand this correctly, it seems that, despite your changes to the CF card, it does all work under some circumstances (moving a test? dip switch). So that is not a bad start or is there still some missing functionality?
If that is the case, then the discussion about the format of the CF card, the file name etc. is irrelevant and the problem appears to be a connection.

I agree with this, when i moved the bottom dip switch, the lights went off, and the song played, and when i did it again, it advanced to the next song, etc..so I am thinking its a connection also.
I don't have aceess to the location till monday so I will try all of these tips then and report back.

I will re-name the new files to the old file names and try that Monday,as well... I did not change the directory just the files...
I have a feeling its a connection issue since when I switched a dipswitch it triggered the automation correctly.
The reason for the multiple files is that there are 6 songs that it cycles thru.
I get back in there Monday am and will try a few of these tips.
