RFID ID-20 with read range of less than 20mm! What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
I have purchased an ID-20 RFID module from Rfid Readers Australia | Little Bird Australia. I also purchased a set of 5 RFID tags (Rfid Tags Australia | Little Bird Australia).

I am only getting a read range of about 1-15mm. What could be doing this? Could it be the tags? Or have I screwed up something with the RFID module?

Does it really get 5Volts needed? Some devices perform substantial better with a separate power supply.

Don't mount the reader on metal or have metal anywhere close. Also check the supply ripple that cuts down the range if it is too much.

I have found that it was infact that it was not receiving the required 5v.
