I have a magic project where I want to detect if any of several objects has been moved. I propose to have a magnet in the objects, each overlying a reed switch(module) attached to digital pins of an arduino. I then want to RF send data specifying which reed switch has been activated to another arduino which will then drive a vibration unit a specified number of times depending on which reed switch was activated(deactivated). For this purpose are nRF24L01 units a good way to go for the transmit and receive?
I think that esp32 processors with esp now would be a more simple way to go.
The information you have given us is completely irrelevant to answering your question.
It's a bit like asking "if a train departs the station at 9am travelling at 60 miles per hour for 2 hours, what colour are the engine driver's socks?"
Tell us about how far the two Arduino are apart, do they have line-of-sight and if not, what obstacles like walls (and construction of those walls) are in-between.
And tell us if more than one object will be moved at a time and will an object ever be replaced.
Connect a (keyboard...) matrix of reed switches to one common Arduino.
You haven't said which Arduino you plan to use but the nRF24l01 will use 7 of it's pins for power and communication (2 for power, 5 for SPI data transfer).
I've had good results with HC-12 (3 wires, 2 power, 1 for serial communication).
no walls, less than 30 ft apart
only one at a time, object may be replaced
That makes it much easier to program for. Be sure to use the weakest magnets that will work so the magnetic field is small and will only affect a single reed switch.
I dont want to use wifi or bluetooth for the project if possible.
Are you trying to avoid the 2.4 Ghz frequency or is there something about the programing api you don't like? Please explain.
nrf2401 is also on the 2.4 GHz wifi band.
The HC12's previously suggested by @JCA34F are very easy to use and use 433 MHz band.
Arduino Uno for the transmitting setup and would prefer to use a smaller unit for the receiver which will instruct a vibrator how many pulses to do (depending on data sent)) such as a nano.
Thx for the input!
I am generally ignorant : I was trying to avoid any interference by local wifi or losing bluetooth connection. Perhaps esp32 NOW communication would be OK - Primary concerns overall are power requirements and small size for receiving unit. (Also 433 in US has some restrictions - I believe can use with 1 watt for short period.). I probably need to look at the coding requirements for the NOW. Can use a nano for receiving I suppose.
No walls, you could use IR
No. both units will need to be esp 32s.
I would take a look at the Xiao esp32 c3
Will this also do the job?
Thx!
In that case, nRF24L01 would be suitable, as would almost any other RF devices commonly used with Arduino.
Using WiFi, Bluetooth, ESPNow etc won't cause problems with other WiFi or Bluetooth devices, so you don't need to avoid using those.
If this were my project I would probably go with ESP32 mini boards for simplicity and size and cost.
