Serial communication problem

Hy!
I want to communicate an multifunction weight indicator over Serial port using an ESP32 (Nodemcu 32-s) board.
With offical FTDI USB-RS232 controller (Chipi-X) works fine, in the arduino serial monitor i see the following:

When i try with ESP32 in the serial monitor i see nothing, or i change the connection of RX/TX pin the result is the following:

The code:

void setup() {
  Serial.begin(9600);
  Serial1.begin(9600,SERIAL_8N1, 16, 17);
}

void loop() {
 while (Serial1.available()){
  Serial.write(Serial1.read());
 }

}

The serial settings is correct, with ftdi device work fine.
The weight indicator is this: Dini Argeo DFWL-1
On ESP32 side i use an 3.3-5V level shifter, and the GND is connected.

What might be the problem?

Thanks!
Benji

A standard ESP32 doesn’t offer an RS232 interface, just a CMOS level UART interface. If you connect that directly to a RS232 interface you probably fried your ESP32 pins.

Thanks for the answer! I find out the solution, the scale has a TTL level serial port , I use this and work fine.
