serial port shield

I'm looking for a serial port shield (db9) that gives me easy access to the db9 pins so I can implement rts/cts/dtr...etc. Everything I see only has tx and rx connected and there is no easy way to access the db9 connections. They are always on the bottom of the board and it would be messy. Any ideas?

Maybe

Nope. That one only has three pins connected. No way is provided to connect others.

The below adapters may have what you need.

Thanks. I saw those as well but was hoping for a shield. If someone would make one with a breakout of the pins it would be much nicer.

OK, various ways of looking at this.

What you basically want, is one of these.

it is a waste of space to have a whole "shield" for such a basic function. Nevertheless the shield that mrburnette cited can be modified simply by soldering wires to the appropriate places, to provide RTS and CTS or DSR and DTR.

The MAX232 that is most commonly used provides only two "handshake" connections; there is a version that provides all of them (and is presumably used in the complete USB to RS-232 cables) though unless you wish to perform auto-answer on a telephone modem, this is rarely necessary and you are most unlikely to find any adaptation of an Arduino to do this.

Yeah I suppose I will have to modify the shield. The shield makes the install so much more solid and easier in my case. I will have to solder some wires to it I suppose.

If the below has the needed pins, then it could be connected just using appropriate jumper wires.

I need a DB9.
