Serial Port Sniffer

Hello,

I have a problem with my arduino application right now, and as far as I can see it is in the communication between my arduino and the program on the computer, so what I need now is some sort of Serial Port sniffer. Does anyone know of any good ones?

YOu could make one yourself with a second Arduino.
Use a serial display? (only for ascii data)

What baudrate are you talking about?

Recently Nick Gammon tipped me this one - Logic Analyzers from Saleae - #1 with Professional Engineers -

You may now use your Arduino as 'Salea like' logic analyzer !!

Or get one of those low cost TTL serial cables and use a PC terminal program.

I've already thought about using my second arduino as sniffer, but what i meant was a computer program (software only).

Can you not debug your PC app? Set breakpoints and look at variables?

I've already thought about using my second arduino as sniffer, but what i meant was a computer program (software only).

On Windows XP I use sometimes HDD Free Serial Port Monitor for Request/Answer debugging

here is a view of 'blink.hex' uploading begining :

It's a commercial PC program, so I do not have any source.

I've already tried HHD Free Serial Monitor, but it refuses to start.

Refuses to start here too, win 7 / 64 - says I have no admin rights for driver sort of ... :frowning: ==> uninstall

That's same problem I had, but with 32bit windows 7.

As said in my post I use this software under XP only.
It's an 'old' 32bit 2000/XP closed source commercial software.
I hope someone will find a mutiplatform open source software with same ergonomy !!
rapidly tested on Ubuntu : jpnevulator

If you're using a 32-bit Windows flavor you might want to look into portmon (Portmon for Windows - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn). It's pretty bare bones, but I've found it useful.

Hello,

Have been looking for a decent sniffer for quite some time and bumped into this topic. The apps suggested here refuse to start under Win10 as well, but I found this solution (Arduino Serial Monitor alternative - Serial Port Monitor), which might come in handy
