I would like to make a arduino project that counts how long have we been together, just like some of the apps on the phone that shows something like 1Y/2M/3D (1 year, 2 months, 3 days) but portable keychain sized, size of an usb stick. Was thinking about using this (OLED 128x32 IIC SSD1306) kind of…

Yeah, that needs to be fixed. Google if you need to. I just removed the surface mount diode and resistor that are in the upper right corner in your picture. I think removing either one would suffice, I just like to be thorough. :expressionless: You could unsolder them. You could cut some PCB trac…

All good on that was thinking about just breaking it and done. Although i found this post so im asking if that's true and does the battery work if the power is out and i previously crushed the diode? "The diode's only function is to block charging of the CR2032 from power off of VCC, not provide a…

That post is BS. The diode is there to ensure that the battery doesn't discharge through the charging circuit when the power is off. Nothing more. Of course, the battery will work when the power is off! It's connected directly to the RTC! I like to desolder the resistor - I figure it's easier to f…

aarg: That post is BS. I don't think it's even talking about the same thing. @sweet42 do you have a link to that? The schematic sometimes seen with the advice to remove the diode or the capacitor clearly shows the result is the coin cell wired according to the datasheet and as @aarg sez di…

Oh good, that's what i thought too but just to make sure.

What a thread. I only recognized one name, I won’t @ that person, why rattle cages? That reply was in line with modern thinking. At that time it was all very new. I don’t think there is any question to the conclusion that the preferred battery is the CR2032 not rechargable, and the module safe onl…

Alright will do just that then and desolder the diode, put a CR2032 battery in it and be good to go. Btw this is the code i have now and displays in correct possition and everything but wrong numbers and also some in minus. When i put the starting date as 0 i get 1 day (without the minus). #inclu…

not a pro tip: When the values printed to an OLED just aren’t right, try taking a look at those values by using Serial print statements. I used many ISTR when getting that Y M D cackulation working way back when. And/or: temporarily print to the OLED using values you jam directly into Y M and D j…

I'm not quite sure what you are saying with the second part I get the first part but dont know how i would implement that. Will see what i can do with that.
