Troubles With Bluetooth Using External Power

After learning how to use bluetooth I figured it would be a good idea to power my bluetooth module (HC-06) using a battery pack. I would use a voltage regulation circuit to get a good 5v to supply the module and connect tx and rx normally. When I try to use the Arduino serial monitor to communicate nothing happens. However, when I use the Arduino 5v supply and Arduino ground everything work ok. Has anyone had the problem before/ now how to fix it?

The connections you need for serial communication between 2 devices (Arduino and Bluetooth module) are 3 wires, TX, RX, and GND.

I know that and when I wire the HC-06 correctly (i've gotten it to work) while using the Arduino's 5v limiter the Arduino can carry out my serial communications. My issue is that the bluetooth won't work while I power the HC-06 with a battery pack while the TX and RX are connected to the Arduino.

"Have you connected the grounds?" Is or most used answer to this type of question.

You need to connect the battery negative to the Arduino gnd.

Are you talking about powering the HC06 separately from the Arduino ?

I don't understand why you would do that?

Please make a pencil drawing showing all your connections and post a photo of the drawing.
