Need ideas to make a accurate and affordable ultrasonic transducer range approx. 2 mtrs for domestic water tank level
with sharp GP2D120 or some other cheap sensors.

use a bobber or some piece of wood that floats on the water. reflects so much better.
take care to recallibrate the sensor as the air is saturated with moisture (high humidity) which affects the speed of sound considerably.
Check - Arduino Playground - MultiMap - for a smart lookuptable
also consider to average multiple readings to get stable values

I'v tried several ways to determine the waterlevel in my watertanks but this is the first stable version.
