Upload Skecth Through Ethernet Connection to Arduino Portenta on a Mid Carrier

Hi everyone,

My understanding of Arduino and programming is still pretty basic, and I’ve been researching how to upload a sketch to an Arduino board through an Ethernet connection. From what I’ve seen so far, it looks a bit complicated for my current level.

I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain whether this is actually an advanced process or if it can be done in a simpler way. Also, if there are any tutorials or forum posts that clearly walk through the steps, I’d be super grateful if you could share them.

Thanks a lot in advance!

This is from a while back prior to Arduino. You will need loader code on the target that does not get erased and maintains the Ethernet connection while uploading. When have that program running you need room for the new program, this typically needs to reside in RAM memory, note it is just being stored not exicuted. The hardware has to be configured such that your code can program then move the data from RAM to Flash. Note some devices have hardware in place to prevent this, such as programmable fuses. This cannot be done with all processors.
