USB Accessories Disabled. Can't Connect Arduino UNO R3 to Mac. Please Help.

Just got my first Arduino R3 UNO Starter Kit and installed the IDE 1.8.5 on my MacBook Pro. I'm excited and ready to start learning.

However, when I plug the Arduino into my USB ports on my mac, the Arduino does not power up, and i get the message "USB Accessories Disabled, Unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices"

I have tried plugging it in to both of my USB ports and get the same message and no power to the Arduino. No other devices are plugged into my USB ports. I have also tried rebooting and get the same message. After I unplug the Arduino, i can plug other USB devices into the ports and they work fine.

I also plugged the Arduino into the barrel plug using the 9volt wall power adapter and it DOES power up. Then if i attempt to plug the USB at the same time, I STILL get the USB using too much power error.

Here are my computer stats:

Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012
2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Mac OS 10.13.1 High Sierra

I read somewhere that my USB ports put out 500ma per port. Isn't that enough for the Arduino?

Has anyone else had this problem and figured out a solution?

Thanks for your help!

Try the board on a USB port on another computer. If it works fine then you need to replace the USB in your computer.

Oh wait, you said apple. I mean you need to go down to the Apple stand and wait in line for a day and ask one of the "people" there to charge you a bunch of money to do something you could have done yourself to any other computer.

If it crashes the second computer then you have a bunko board and need to get your money back.

Sounds like there is a problem with the USB connector on the Arduino.
Try buzzing out the connector, maybe there is a short on the board you can fix.

Thanks for your response. What does "buzzing out the connector" mean? I'm new to this stuff. Thanks again!
