What is the file type, ie the extension, of the extra IDE tabs that you are using ?

The IDE stores them in the enclosing folder and all the extensions are ".ino"

Something to be careful of, if you leave an unpaired curly bracket ( {} ), quote mark, comment marks ( /* and */ ), etc, in a tab, then the compiler continues on with whatever is in the next tab it processes.
