Using WiFi on a sailingboat after leaving the harbour

I would like to use the new Arduino R4 WiFi boards on my sailingboat. When at harbour, the boat club has a wifi network connecting to anywhere. But when leaving the harbour, there is no longer any wifi other than the wifi router onboard. Is there any example or solution on how to connect directly to devices a few meters away on the boat? I mean something like a Dashboard server for use on the boat when away from normal wifi, also feels like very big overkill to have a GSM connected server just to dim a light on the boat or controlling something else. Any suggestions?

By what means? What devices? Please describe what you want to do a bit more clearly.

If you are describing a system of devices connected to a LAN hosted by your onboard router and they require no connection to the WAN (Internet) to operate, then nothing will change when you leave port and your router drops the WAN connection.

Then you are fine, you can have a local network, you just won't have Internet access.
