Anyone wants to second as contributing to the statistical average of an arduino site visitor?
Forty Five years old; Married; two kids; disabled former engineer; browse from home (which is work also, I guess); Eight years of college not including evening and summer classes.. but NO degree (something I am rather proud of). Not even an associate's. Oddly enough, I am a licensed vocational school teacher... what does that say?
Never was very sure of the different qualifications of student, postgraduate is after you graduate college right? I'm only working on my Associates right now
Also, I rarely browse from school, and never from work (lol Wally World (Wal-Mart for those who don't know the slang)) I probably normally browse about 5 minutes at a time, but two or three times a day (have other interests which require more time at the moment)
Alexa stats are interesting but wrong. Have a look at the statistics for my website. According to Alexa Amazon Alexa 100% of my visitors come from arduino.cc. However if I look at my server statistics this is completely off the mark. Arduino.cc only delivers about 1/3 off the traffic. 1/3 is from hackaday and 1/3 are search engine hits and more "direkt" hits. However I have good reason to believe that the wordpress statistics are not really 100% accurate as well.
You might need to wait a bit and get enough monthly visits on your site to make research tools such as alexa.com to work more accurately.
From my blog visit, alexa reports 66% arduino.cc and 33% google.com downstream. This kind of compares with referrer results summarized by my blog, 6,691 with arduino.cc and 4,184 with google.com
The above are for the last 3 months. If downstream = referrer then the stats are consistent, not very accurate though. I might need to get 20K visits/month for an external research tool to spit accurate results. Right now I'm just bringing in half of that amount of visit monthly. XD
Well right now my page is active for 3.5 months and got ~50000 hits so far. Should be enough for a decent statistics. I think most tools do not handle the redirect from www.blinkenlight.net to blog.blinkenlight.net properly.
My point is that Alexa requires users run something locally to submit usage statistics. It's interesting because it provides data regarding sites other than your own. However, why would any care to run it? So you get more information about Alexa users than any useful analytics regarding a web page.
I was unaware that Alexa is fed by some plugin. Strange that anyone would be willing to install such a plugin. But wait - I have some suspicion who would do this. Alexa is monitoring people who are trying to monitor other people??? Funny.
