Vin Pin stopped working

Hi,

I am new to the arduino world but I am loving it. I am taking a volt meter from one of the arduino ground to the Vin pin and I am not getting any thing. When I do the same ground to 5v pin I get 5 volts. I have tried a different jumper wire, a different batter(12v and 9v), I have tried a different ground. Still no voltage from Vin pin and 3v and 5v pins work. I have done a few miss wires with relays and diodes but every thing else seams to be working???

The VIN pin only works when you've got an external power supply connected to the board. If you have done this, first of all make sure that the DC plug is put in properly. Then check if you're not putting the - end of your multimeter to VIN. The VIN pin gives + voltage, not -. Try using USB power and see if it works. Other than that, check if any of your circuitry (if you have any) causes a short between VIN and GND. If so, disconnect power IMMEDIATELY. If that is not the case, then check the troubleshooting page on the website.

Hope this helps!

You are connecting 12V or 9V to the power jack and getting 5V and 3.3V from those pins but NOTHING from the Vin pin? About the only thing that could cause that is a broken trace on the PCB or a bad solder connection at the Vin pin.

Check for continuity between the Vin pin and the three pins of the voltage regulator. One of the three pins should be directly connected to Vin.

Thanks, johnwasser

I have plugged both a 9 volt and 12 volt battery in. 3.3 and 5 volt ports work fine but still nothing on the Vin port. I will try and find the regulator and check the pins to see that a trace was not damaged. Is there any kind of fix if I did blow a trace or am I looking at a new board. I think I saw boards for ~ 35 on a few sites? I will post what I find.

Thanks

If it's a bad solder joint, just re-melt the solder. If the trace is burnt, just run a wire from the Vin pin to the regulator input.

This maybe a bit of a hijack but...When using USB for power on a DUE should you see any voltage at Vin? I see 4.2V with only USB connected, no other PW.
