As said in another thread, you need to provide more information.

  1. What is the application?
  2. What motor, servo, stepper, linear actuator do you want to control?
  3. What hardware do you want to have as input to work with the controller?

An overview of what you have in mind would help?

A Uno or Nano can do the job, but it depends on the answers to the above questions.

Arduino UNO is enough for this task.

You can directly connect the LCD to you Arduino UNO. You can also use an LCD keypad shield if needed. To connect a DC motor to your Arduino, you have to use a motor driver in between. L293 or L298 will work.

Will work, but inefficienty, you loose power in the ICs themselves.
This is not good for low power motor control.

Look to MOSFET type motor drivers, better performance and efficiency.

Yeah agreed. Pololu brushed DC motor drivers are better. L298 is cheaper. That's why students find it more budget-friendly.
