Why did my buck DC-DC converter burn out?

1.1 amp on full duty. However I only plan to power the LED strip with a PWM 20% duty at most.

the buck converter is only meant to power the Arduino board, two 20k pots and and a TM1637.

I guess it's a linear one

No, universal input voltage (100-240), so SMPS.

What voltage on the power supply does the output measure? The MPSM1586 is only rated for 28 volts input. Using 24 is extremely close. Next go around get something with at least a 40 volt rating or a power supply that puts out less voltage.

Now my strobe light works, I used a 36V -> 5V buck converter.
