Hi i work at a university in the uk and we have recently been introduced to the arduino. can any body help me with how to wire up a 12 v 5 amp car window screen wiper motor. this is what our students use all the time. any suggestions would be great.

Do you want to run the motor with simple on/off control, or do you want variable speed control? Do you also want to be able to reverse the polarity, and hence the direction of rotation of the motor?
well you name it we will want to do it so yes speed control, and direction control would be amazing any ideas?

on the schematic im not sure what some of the compants are. could anyone who has more experience please break them down so i know what to by. is it a mostfit transister i need? i am new to this so i do struggle. thanks for any help given.

Best if you could mark up what you don't know and post the diagram then we can point out exactly what you are having trouble with.
Anyway I thought you said you worked at a University. I used to lecture in Physics until they closed down the department. Have you no one at your University that is the least bit technical?
ha yes its an art university and we deal with the creative side and unfortunatly we are a satelite campus. i have three very good robotic contacts who i am kind of working with. i know they know all the answers but im trying to grow some autonimus (bad spelling as usual) electronic learning and if i do it buy finding the info i will learn.

No it is this government, and the last one, who should feel ashamed for destroying much of the science in our Universities. Anyway if you can point to what you don't know I can say what it is.
To post a picture or a diagram get a picture sharing site like Flicker and up load the picture. Then post the URL here in between the {img} {/img} (only with square brackets) you get from the third icon from the left in the reply window.
I am sure if you don't know there are many others who just watch our proceedings who would like to know.
