240vac - 12vdc connections

Hi,

Could anyone advise the following, please?

I am relatively new to the Arduino and electronics in general. I want to power a project from mains supply (240vac). I have seen the following transformer;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-100-240V-To-DC-12V-2A-Buck-Converter-Isolated-Step-Down-Power-Supply-Module/263047188304?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

When I have received it, the input has both red wires. How do I know which to connect to phase and which to neutral? Could you explain why it does/doesn't matter?

Thank you in advance.

It does not matter. With alternating current half the time the current flows in one direction and half the time it flows in the other direction.

If you are installing a switch on the mains power before your transformer then the switch should be on the phase wire or both, but not on the neutral only.

Mains electricity can kill. If you don't know what you are doing then get the advice of a qualified electrician. It will be a lot cheaper than a funeral.
