I have a circuit board with a 34 pin IDE connector on (socket). I know these usually use a ribbon cable to connect to - is there a way to connect this to a non ribbon cable? I'm going to need to plug it into my wiring loom in my car...
Thanks!

No, the IDE connector is designed specifically for 0.05" pitch ribbon cable.
Can you separate the ribbon cable into individual wires along part of its length ?
Do you need all 34 wires or only some of them ?
How are you going to connect it to the car wiring loom ?
He didn't say he he had a cable.
He said he had aconnector.
Sorry chaps, my bad. I am designing a PCB, and am using IDE sockets to allow termination of IDE ribbon cables to the board from existing vehicle switchpacks. I then need a I/O connector to interface the board with the car and used IDE simply because I was already using it. I now realise that limits me to ribbon cables which won't interface with the car loom very easily.
In which case, which would be a nice replacement which would take up roughly the same board space?
Currently I have this socket https://tz.infinite-electronic.hk/product/HARTING_09185347324.aspx
Could anyone recommend a part which would work for wire to board rather than board to board?

You still haven't said how the wires/cables "interface" with the car loom. You could, for instance, create a small PCB with an IDE connector to accept the ribbon cable from your main PCB with outputs to suitable connectors to "interface" with the car loom
Plug a cable in and split the wires and splice them into the 'loom' (whatever that means)

Well ideally I would terminate some wires from the dashboard loom/harness to crimp pins to be inserted into a connector which would plug into the board.
I could make a small interface board but that then adds a ribbon cable and a small pcb that isn't needed. Better to terminate directly into the pcb if possible. I just seem to be struggling to find something like this in on the component websites..
