4xAA (4.8V) powered 20W LED Strobe using Pro mini or nano v3

Hi,

I would like to make following 10W or 20W LED strobe project for my cycle rides.

I have ordered following parts.

  • Pro mini
  • nano V3
  • USB to TTL 5v/3.3v
  • 10W 12v LED
  • 20W 12v LED

Above video has explained almost all aspects But i want to use 4 AA Ni-MH battery's with makes 4.8v in series.

Can any one suggest parts needed & how to modify above circuit.

rgds,
Nikhil

What's the Arduino for in your circuit?

Post links to the LEDs you plan to use.

4x AA battery has about 12Wh, so you'll get about 30 minutes worth into your 20W LED.
Maybe more if you actually "strobe"... is that acceptable?

For new NiMH AA batteries, the rated capacity is typically 2.5 Ah, but a sensible person would derate that by half.

NiMH AA internal resistance is typically 320 mOhm, so at 5 A draw, the internal voltage drop would be about 1.6V, giving a pack voltage of nominally 3.2V.

Maybe not enough to light the LEDs, considering other voltage drops in the system.

Thinking to use a Pro mini .

I want to use it as Safety strobe light only.

The only reason to use these battery's is i have bought them by mistake & don't have other use for them & dont want to throw them either..

My question was not which Arduino, but why use an Arduino.

Your links posted correctly:

don't have other use for them

Use the batteries to light smaller/less powerful LEDs for emergency lighting.

Keep them charged with this ridiculously cheap solar panel.
