off aliexpress and akin I could only find bootlegs R502 and FPM10A, both are like around 15 or 20 euros...
you can find lots of capacitive sensors from phone repair parts for about 1/2 euro, but they're uselss if I can't interface with them...

about a sensor that isn't what I mentioned before, or if it exist a way to recycle smartphone sensors without docs that I am not aware of
for example notebook's touchpads are without one, yet they're easy to reverse
The prices you mention seem pretty reasonable for just one device.
Are perhaps bare sensors, relying on "smarts" in the rest of the phone electronics to do processing, while the $20 versions include their own intelligence and can be trained and give yes/no answers?
This sensor has to be able to check fingerprints?
Finger touch can DIY for cheap, fingerprint resolution alone... what does that take?
