a question about powering arduino and motor shield

i have arduino uno hooked to generic adafruit motor shield driving 2 dc motors, servo and ultrasonic sensor i was wondring if i can power them both with 19.2v nicad bettery and leave the jumper on the motor shield instead of powering each one of them.
is that possible and wont hurt arduino or the motorshield?

19.2V is too high for Vin on the Arduino.

how about powering the motorshield?
because when i power the motorshield by it self everything is working fine but when i power the motor shield separate and the arduino separate and take of the power pin on the shield they dont work.
is there any solution to this problem?
im using 9v for the shield and 9v for arduino by the way

well 19.2 is really high and not recommended.. i think its better to power them separately. .
Otherwise if your motor shield has an output between 7-12 you can power your arduino from there
