A random NFC card idea

i was thinking about things I could try using an Arduino and had a random idea. Would it be possible to create something that could scan your hotel keycard and then use it as an extra key? Just to clarify I want to have the arduino read an NFC chip and then send its signal to another chip connected to the arduino. I know that this can be done with a Flipper Zero rather than an Arduino but am not willing to buy one at the moment. Does anyone know a way this could be done? It's definitely a random idea but could be a fun project!

you can buy that stuff on aliexpress.

The hotel cards use crypted information inside the card. unless you know the crypt password you won't be able to read in the data and clone the card.

(some cards are easier to break than others - newer NFC implementations often include more advanced security features compared to some older RFID systems)

Most hotels have encrypted keycards. However, see this article: Hackers can unlock over 3 million hotel doors in seconds | Ars Technica

yes that's what I meant with

The MIFARE Classic and older RFID stuff is indeed not very secure (and has been hacked for more than a decade).

NFC has stronger (more modern) security.

I see. I didn't think about the potential legal problems with this one. Ah well!

Well, it sounds like this might not work the best after all. Thanks for the quick answers though... It's good to know that people would be so willing to help with other projects!

Hotel staff regularly post "short term" rooms "for sale" when "occupied" rooms appear vacant. Commit all the illegal entry you want while getting paid for it!
