NFC card reader (total noob)

Hello, hello!

I know nothing about arduino products so this is just a very general toe in the water...

Looking into making some gadget type things, never used arduino, never really done anything like this but seems a good time to start so just a quick couple of questions for the experts please.

How easy/expensive/time consuming would it be for a total novice to build something that could open a locked drawer upon reading a valid NFC tag? Maybe combined with some form of motion detection (user scans a tagged card, LED flashes green, user drops card through a slot into a box, lock opens type of thing). How small could this entire package be? Guessing smaller is more costly? Could it be solar powered for very occasional use e.g. 2 or 3 times a week?

Actually, was quite a few questions - I'm after a sort of "Yeah £50 mate, copy some code from a google search, piece of cake" or "£200 and hours of online research to learn how to code" answers please and thankyou.

Hoping it's really quick and easy - but if it's too easy I know I'll get into it and end up tinkering loads once I get started - so also hoping it's really difficult/expensive so I get put off!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Don't expect any ready made code to copy nor a project to copy. Learning coding is the way as well of some electronics knowledge is needed.

A total novice will buy multiple copies of each device because they know they will destroy several during their learning period. The novice will also buy several different power supplies because each time they bought one that doesn't work. And that is because they did not bother to learn about volts and amps and power and resistance calculations.
