Adafruit Metro Mini vs Arduino Nano Every

Which one would you choose between these two if reliability and quality would be most important for you?

I'm gonna say.... its a wash. I don't see either design is inherently more or less reliable.

So it comes down to what company made the board and what is their process quality.

I've seen folks have quality issues with genuine Arduino boards so being "genuine" is not a guarantee of quality and one would expect reliability follows.

I've not heard anything about the Adafruit products so I can't comment.

All that said, I don't think you can be confident of superior reliability by board choice. I think the best you can do is:

  1. Visually inspect the board you have / purchase. Google IPC solder guidelines (or similar) they show photos of good and bad solder joints.

  2. Clean the board with Alcohol and a tooth brush. Blot the board to remove the solder rosin. Repeat 3 or 4 times. Then clean the board with hot water and dish soap (yes I said dunk the board in water (but keep the water and alcohol away from the USB connector).
Re clean with alcohol to clean off any conductive particles from the water. You could use distilled water if you wish.

There is no such thing as "literally" no clean solder. Ask any solder rep. Solder flux has varying degrees of activity. Very active flux must be cleaned because it will continue to react after the board is made and shipped. Mild flux reacts less and no clean flux reacts the least, but it still reacts so cleaning will get you a small increase in reliability.

What is the application ?

Hi @mongol

The Adafruit Metro Mini and the Arduino Nano Every are very different boards. The Metro Mini being more similar to the classic Nano.

The build quality of both Arduino and Adafruit products are excellent.

Personally though, I wouldn't buy a board that doesn't have the pins labelled on the top side. It's a small thing, but something that I find essential:

Nano Every
