Alternatives to a Stepper Motor for a 12V Battery Powered Project

Hi,

Just looking for some beginner tips on suitable motor type selection for a project.

The project requires the motor to:

  • rotate a shaft at very slow and smooth motion. Roughly 1 to 4 RPM.
  • perform a constant 'sweep' style movement. Eg. 45 - 180 degrees back and forth.
  • run up to around a whole day on a 12V battery.

If anyone has any info on what's needed for this project that'd be great.

Thanks

Hello kt1841

Take a search eingine of your choice and ask the WWW for "ALPS +motor".

Eg. 45 - 180 degrees back and forth.

Or select a Servo.

Why not look at how winscreen wipers work? They have a linkage that converts a continuous rotation to a "back & forth".

I believe Sparkfun has gearmotors that run at about that speed. As for the sweep, that can be done by a mechanism like a windshield wiper as @johnerrington said. Should be doable without needing an arduino.
